Day 10 of Taste-Mas 2015: Flying Monkeys Acadian Groove 750 ml

Acadian Groove emerges from the changing tempo of Spring in rural Ontario. The sweet, sappy change from bitter Winter brings such incredible joy to us thawing Ontarians, it demands a beer in celebration. Brewed with Ontario maple syrup from our friends up the road at Breedon’s Maple Farm in Alliston, Acadian Groove honours two solid Canadian icons: Maple Syrup and Craft Beer

Tantalizing aromas of maple, sweet roasted malts, and slightly earthy hops are layered upon the plump bouquet of split vanilla pods with toasty undercurrents of light coffee and chocolate. The undeniable warmth of this 10% ABV beer embraces the promise of Spring with a lingering maple finish. 750 ml, 10% alc./vol.

Man – the description of this brew is perfect.

The maple is so sweet that I find the coffee a little bitter. It is enjoyable; but I would rather dial the coffee back a bit.

Alright – as the bottle warms up a bit the vanilla peeks through and I’m enjoying the creaminess. The aftertaste is still a little bitter for me though….

From the moment I opened this bottle I could smell the sweetness of the maple syrup. I really enjoyed this beer, it was strong yet sweet and the after taste was quite pleasant. A big turn around from last year’s Chocolate Manifesto Fiasco.

Hmm. The maple is not subtle. Hints of coffee, chocolate and coffee. It’s quite sweet (maybe a bit too sweet?). And it has a bitter finish. I could probably handle that much bitterness in a beer that wasn’t so sweet. But the sweet and bitter together don’t work ideally for me.
