Day 5 of Taste-Mas 2017: Bellwoods Brewery Robust Porter with Vanilla 500 ml

This rich and full-bodied vanilla porter was brewed with the goal to make a relatively low-alcohol porter that is round and chewy enough that it drinks like its higher alcohol counterparts such as the Lost River Baltic Porter. The result is not unlike drinking a melted chocolate bar. Huge aromas and flavours of chocolate, vanilla, root beer and espresso beans. A round, chewy mouthfeel leads into a pleasant and well-balanced finish. 500 ml, 6% alc./vol.

Well well well. Another porter. ‘’Tis the Season!!

I find this to be more espresso than vanilla. A very nice drinking beer – clean to start with a classic porter finish!!

    Well done Bellwoods!

Agreed, more espresso than vanilla. Strong flavour and a very dark black colour, but light and easy to drink.

I fell behind on my TasteMas responsibilities with all the travel and holiday festivities. So I hope to get caught up tonight. Anyway, I finally opened this one last night, but didn’t have time to leave a comment. For me the strongest notes with this one are the toasty roasty porter flavour, that rings a bit like coffee, and a hint of chocolates flavour. Didn’t pick up much of the vanilla claimed in its name. My brother tried some too, and he thought it had a note of olive flavour(!), which was maybe a bit off-putting. Maybe with a bit of imagination I could taste it too. But anyway, all in all a decent porter.
